Summary | A British national, Philip spent most of his career in Netherlands & former Soviet Union. Started out with a degree in Dutch at the University of London, Philip then taught English in Belgium & worked as translator for Dutch government. His first position in media & marketing: Dutch daily, De Telegraaf was where he first acquired skills as media planning, research & consumer targeting. He worked on media surveys “Decision Makers 84, 88 & 90” before moving to new branch of Japanese ad agency, Hakuhodo. There he built & headed a team of 8 staff coordinating media across the whole of Europe for multinational companies, e.g. Canon. His career then took him to Eastern Europe; first to Poland in 1997 and then to Russia in 1998: 8 hectic but very productive years in one of the world's fastest growing new markets, in Moscow and St Petersburg. "In that time, I helped build a small media operation into one of the market leaders in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, Optimum Media OMD, which is allied to the Omnicom group." Switched to Prague early 2007, a regional management position within Omnicom Media Group. In November 2007 went back East: to unpredictable Ukraine, working for Mediavest, part of Publicis Groupe Media. The global crisis 2008 affected Ukraine seriously: contract was ended. "At this point I started to divide my time between freelance advertising and English teaching assignments." He joined BBDO Kyiv later in 2009, as director of strategy. "In this role, I was pleased to have contributed to some prizewinning campaigns. 2 Effies in 2 years, including the Effie Grand Prix for PEPSI (2010)." Philip moved to Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2011, for a brief assignment, but couldn't settle and returned to Kyiv, which had by then become his home. "At present am involved in a new media consultancy venture, with support from a London specialist agency, EMM and offer this service on the local Ukrainian market."
